When clients come to a session they often carry tension related to stress and this can be both physical and mental.

Progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) works by guiding them to relax different muscle groups, bringing awareness to any areas where there may be tension, and helping the body and mind to let go of stress. PMR may also include some guided imagery, helping people imagine sights and sounds in nature that we all associate with feeling relaxed.

In hypnotherapy, relaxation isn’t just about feeling comfortable, it’s about shifting ourselves into a more receptive state where positive change can happen. By practicing PMR, we can gently transition into a relaxed but focused mindset, making ourselves more open to suggestion and therapeutic guidance.

Research shows that PMR not only helps with stress but may also reduce anxiety and low mood. PMR may also benefit some people who suffer from pain conditions. It’s also been shown to help in moments if high stress such as before exams.
